U.S. preparing to send fighters to Israel
The New York Times has reported that the United States is preparing to send additional fighter jets to the Middle East in response to threats of attacks on Israel by Iran and its proxies following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Increased Readiness
A military official told the NYT that American forces in the Middle East are taking "necessary measures" to increase combat readiness and protect U.S. soldiers and allies from potential threats posed by Iran or Iran-backed militia groups.
The official mentioned ongoing efforts to determine the types and numbers of aircraft to be deployed to aid in defending Israel without escalating the conflict in the region.
Rapid Deployment
Preparations are underway to send the additional fighter jets to the Middle East "as soon as possible." High-level officials, including U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, are expected to give the final approval for the deployment.
