Putin-Abbas summit in Moscow: 'We share a common position...'
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian issue and the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with United Nations resolutions.

During a meeting at the Novo-Ogaryovo presidential residence in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who was visiting Russia.
Putin remarked that the events in Palestine have not escaped Russia's attention, stating, "It is well known that Russia is currently forced to defend its interests and protect its people with the weapons at its disposal. However, what is happening in the Middle East, particularly in Palestine, is certainly not overlooked by us."
Putin highlighted Russia's longstanding and deep ties with the Arab world in general and with Palestine in particular, stressing that Russia has always supported a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He continued, "And we understand that you (Abbas) and I share a common position: the roots of this issue go back a long way and are connected with the neglect of decisions made at the international level, especially at the UN level, regarding the formation and establishment of an independent Palestinian state."
Putin also reaffirmed Russia's unwavering stance on the matter, saying, "Our position has been formulated long ago and is not opportunistic. We believe that to achieve lasting, reliable, and stable peace in the region, all UN resolutions must be implemented, and above all, a fully-fledged Palestinian state must be established."
