Japan hit by magnitude 6 earthquake: 5 buildings collapsed
A magnitude 6 earthquake occurred in Ishikawa prefecture on Monday and was also felt in Niigita, Fukushima and and Toyama according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
A magnitude 6 earthquake occurred in Ishikawa prefecture of Japan.
In a statement made by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake hit at 06.31 local time and it was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.
After the earthquake, which was felt in Niigata, Fukushima and Toyama provinces as well as Ishikawa, an aftershock of 4.8 magnitude occurred at 06.40.
JMA stated that there was no risk of tsunami. It was also reported that there were no abnormalities in the operation of nuclear power plants in the region after the tremors.
Local authorities announced that the earthquakes caused the collapse of 5 buildings in the city of Wajima, while no casualties were recorded according to the first determinations.
JMA warned that aftershocks may continue in the region.
Japan's Ishikawa prefecture was shaken by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake on January 1, killing 260 people.
At least 1,300 people were injured and 3 people were recorded as missing in the earthquake. Since January 1, hundreds of tremors had been experienced in the region.
