French President on Ukraine: "We must be ready for all scenerios"
French President Emmanuel Macron vocalized his unwavering support to Ukraine on Monday, saying that Europe must "help Ukraine resist".
"We must help Ukraine resist, arm it, train it, support it to the end and at the same time be ready for any scenario to build a long-term peace within the framework of international law," French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe has "never had as many internal and external enemies as it has" today.
"We have never had so many enemies inside and outside. We are living in a moment of existential crisis in which our Europe could die," Macron said in a statement.
Macron said the main reasons for this were the conflict in Ukraine and the economic challenges of decarbonizing the economy.
"We are living the crisis of our democracies," Macron said, noting the growing popularity of nationalist parties in Europe.
Noting that the current challenges require a "leap" in cooperation between France and Germany "to prepare for the future", Macron said.
In his full statement, French President said: "This is a leap we have made since the beginning of the conflict, but we need to go further. We have taken a tough stance and we will raise this issue at the joint (Franco-German) ministerial and defense council. We must help Ukraine resist, arm it, train it, support it to the end and at the same time be ready for any scenario to build a long-term peace within the framework of international law."
Macron said he wants to see an "ambitious plan" for Ukraine's defense and Europe's security, and "a shared vision on EU growth, innovation and competitiveness."
