The President admitted that joint operations by the U.S. and British navies have not yet managed to stop the Iran-backed Houthis from targeting commercial vessels passing through the Red Sea. He expressed concern over the persistence of these attacks.

"Are they stopping the Houthis? No. Will they continue? Yes," Biden said, emphasizing the U.S. commitment to ongoing operations against the Houthis.

Simultaneously, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported the destruction of two Houthi anti-ship missiles prepared for launch targeting the southern Red Sea. This statement aligns with CENTCOM's earlier announcement about an assault on 14 Houthi missiles near Sana'a around 23:59 on January 17, which was confirmed by sources in Yemen.
