AKP MPs assaulted to opposition MP Ahmet Şık
The Grand National Assembly of Turkiye (TBMM) convened today for an extraordinary session to discuss the case of Can Atalay, opposition MP who was stripped of parliamentary seat. Following remarks by Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık, in which he stated "You have no shame," AKP member Alpay Özalan attempted a physical assault.
The Assembly gathered to discuss the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the imprisoned Turkiye Workers' Party (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay.
A brawl erupted in the Assembly after Ahmet Şık's speech, leading to the session being adjourned three times.
As Ahmet Şık took the floor again to speak, a group of AKP MPs, led by Alpay Özalan, attacked him. The incident was captured on camera.
MP KOÇYİĞİT INJURED!
Following punches and kicks aimed at Ahmet Şık, chaos ensued in the Assembly. CHP and DEM Party MPs rushed to the podium to protect Şık, but they also became targets of the AKP MPs' assault.
DEM Party MP Gülistan Koçyiğit was injured during the altercation. TİP Istanbul MP Sera Kadıgil shared a video of the brawl on her social media account.
