Trabzonspor faces fan ban and fines after pitch invasion

The Turkish Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) has decreed that Trabzonspor, a premier football club, will play its next six home games in an empty stadium following a pitch invasion during a Super Lig match last month. In addition, the club faces a fine of 3 million liras ($93,923) for failing to control its executives and fans' actions. Fenerbahce players Jayden Oosterwolde and Irfan Can Egribayat have also been suspended for one match due to their involvement in altercations with opposing fans.

Trabzonspor's assistant coach, Egemen Korkmaz, received a one-game ban from accessing the locker room and bench area for engaging in a physical altercation with a player from the opposing team.

The incident occurred after Fenerbahce secured a 3-2 victory over Trabzonspor at Papara Park, sparking confrontations. Numerous Trabzonspor supporters breached the field, aiming to assault the jubilant Fenerbahce players. Security personnel were swiftly deployed to quell the disturbances.

Online footage revealed confrontations involving Fenerbahce players, including Michy Batshuayi, Osayi-Samuel, and Oosterwolde, with the invading fans. Teammate Dominik Livakovic was attacked while heading towards the tunnel.

Throughout the match, Trabzonspor fans exacerbated the situation by hurling flares and various objects onto the pitch, highlighting the chaotic scenes that led to the punitive measures.
