UK police arrest 4 suspects after officer shot in Nottingham
British police said Monday that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham.
Nottinghamshire Police said the male officer remained hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in Angel Row early Sunday evening.
The officer had approached two suspects at a bus stop when the shooting occurred, according to the police force.
Two women, aged 27 and 25, and a 24-year-old man were arrested after police stopped a vehicle in Nottingham's Radford area Sunday evening.
The 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, police said.
The 24-year-old man and the 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A 30-year-old man was also arrested in Bedfordshire early Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender after police stopped a vehicle.
"A team of experienced detectives continues to work tirelessly to establish exactly what happened before, during and after this appalling incident," Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas said in a statement.
Rukas welcomed the four arrests and expressed hope that they would reassure the public as investigators questioned the suspects in connection with the shooting.
Police said a large cordon established in Angel Row following the incident had since been lifted.
