Snow grounds dozens of flights at Amsterdam airport
Dozens of flights to and from Amsterdam Schiphol airport were cancelled on Sunday due to snowfall expected to reach the Netherlands in the afternoon.
Anticipated snowfall in the Netherlands led to significant disruptions at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Sunday, with KLM cancelling dozens of flights. The airline cancelled 65 return flights, primarily to European destinations, in order to manage the remaining flights more effectively in the challenging weather conditions. Passengers were informed of the cancellations and rebooked on the next available flights.
Schiphol Airport and KLM had issued warnings about potential delays and cancellations due to the predicted snowfall. The snow, expected to intensify on Sunday afternoon, was forecasted to blanket the country with up to 5 centimeters of snow, leading to temperatures dropping to as low as -7 degrees Celsius.
The cancellations and disruptions are part of a broader impact of winter weather in Europe, as KLM had already cancelled flights to Humberside, Glasgow, and Munich on Saturday due to heavy snowfall in Germany. The airline, along with Schiphol Airport, advised passengers to stay updated on their travel information as the situation evolved.
