Saudi Arabia lifts warnings for southern, southwestern areas
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense issued danger warnings for the southwestern city of Najran and As-Sulayyil governorate in the south-central part of the kingdom on Sunday before announcing a short time later that the danger had passed in both areas.
The warnings, issued through the kingdom’s National Early Warning Platform, urged residents to follow Civil Defense instructions.
A short time later, the Civil Defense issued all-clear notices for Najran and As-Sulayyil, saying the danger had passed while urging residents to continue following safety instructions and avoid gathering or filming.
Authorities did not disclose the nature of the threat that prompted the warnings or whether any projectiles had been intercepted.
The Civil Defense also warned that “filming, publishing, or sharing information related to countering missiles and drones and their impact sites exposes you to legal liability.”
The alerts come amid an escalation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi group, which has carried out missile and drone attacks targeting the kingdom.
Saudi authorities have issued a series of emergency warnings in southern and southwestern areas in recent days amid the escalation.
