Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in a statement released on Telegram, condemned the assault, highlighting the destruction of 18 apartments by what he identified as a Shahed drone, a model known for its lethal efficiency and supplied by Iran. "Russia continues to fight civilians... One of the enemy drones hit a residential building in Odesa," Zelenskiy noted, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the attacks targeting civilian infrastructures.

Visual evidence shared by Zelenskiy showed the aftermath of the strike—a significant portion of the apartment building was obliterated, leaving a gaping hole and a scene of devastation. The footage also captured the frantic efforts of dozens of rescuers, who were seen sifting through the debris in a bid to find survivors and retrieve bodies.

Oleh Kiper, the regional governor of Odesa, provided an update on the rescue operations, stating that as of 8:30 AM local time, efforts to clear the site were ongoing. Miraculously, a man was rescued alive from what appeared to be the basement area of the struck building, suggesting he might have sought refuge there during the attack.

The situation remains dire, with Ukraine's Suspilne public broadcaster reporting, based on information from local prosecutors, that six people were still unaccounted for following the drone strike. The community and authorities are holding onto hope as the search for survivors continues amidst the chaos and destruction left in the wake of this latest attack.
