"According to preliminary data, as a result of the criminal's actions, one traffic police officer suffered injuries incompatible with life," the ministry said.

In a separate statement, the Russian Investigative Committee said the perpetrator also died in the explosion.

"It has been established that on the night of Feb. 23-24, a man approached three State Traffic Safety Inspectorate officers who were on duty at Savyolovsky Railway Station Square in Moscow and carried out a self-detonation," it said.

As part of the investigation, an inspection was conducted, and necessary forensic examinations were ordered, including genetic, medical, and explosives analysis, the committee said.

"The identity of the man who detonated the explosive device is being established," it added.

A criminal case has been opened into the attack on police officers under two articles –assault on the life of a law enforcement officer and illegal trafficking of explosive devices.

In a separate incident in Moscow, a staircase collapsed at the Kyiv railway station, according to the press service of Moscow Railways.

Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. A special commission has been established to determine the cause of the collapse.
