Michael Jordan's sneakers set auction record with $8M sale
Michael Jordan's sneakers achieved a record-breaking $8 million sale at a Sotheby’s auction on Friday, marking the highest price ever fetched for game-worn sneakers at auction.

This sale shatters the previous record for the most expensive sneakers ever auctioned, which stood at $2.2 million in April of the previous year, also for a pair owned by Jordan.
Dubbed the Dynasty Collection, the lot features sneakers Jordan wore during his championship victories with the Chicago Bulls in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998.
Sotheby’s highlighted that the collection includes a unique set of signed photographs by Bill Smith, capturing Jordan in the aftermath of the NBA Finals in 1992, 1993, 1996, and 1998. These images show him smiling and celebrating, often with just one sneaker on. The other sneaker, as per Sotheby’s statement, was gifted to Tim Hallam, the Chicago Bulls' public relations executive since 1978.
At 60, Jordan not only holds the record for the auction of game-worn sneakers but also for the most expensive piece of game-worn sports memorabilia. His jersey from Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals fetched $10.1 million in September 2022.
Jordan's illustrious career includes six NBA championships with the Bulls, six NBA Finals Most Valuable Player awards, and five league MVPs across 15 NBA seasons. Regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, Jordan has also become a cultural icon, with a net worth estimated at $3 billion by Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires List.
