Malaysia’s 100-year-old ex-Premier Mahathir hospitalized for hip fracture
Veteran Malaysian statesman and former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalized for a hip fracture, his aide said on Tuesday.
After his medical assessment, “it has been confirmed” that Mahathir, 100, “suffered a fracture to the right hip,” Sufi Yusoff said in a statement to Anadolu.
Mahathir is “expected to be admitted” to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, “for the next few weeks for treatment and observation,” Yusoff said.
Mahathir, who turned 100 last July, fell inside his home early Tuesday morning at around 7:30 a.m. (0330GMT), his aide said.
The former two-time prime minister was shifted to the hospital at around 9:30 a.m. (0530GMT), Yusoff added.
Mahathir has a history of medical procedures, including heart bypass surgeries.
Last July, he was admitted to the IJN after experiencing fatigue during a picnic in Putrajaya.
