Hong Kong economy expands 5.2% in 3rd quarter
Hong Kong's economy expanded 5.2% in real terms year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026, accelerating from 4.2% in the second quarter, official advance estimates showed on Tuesday.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter basis, real gross domestic product increased 1.9% in the July-September period, according to the Census and Statistics Department.
For the first nine months of 2026 combined, real gross domestic product grew 5.1% year-on-year, marking the fastest expansion for the period in five years.
The economic pickup was driven primarily by strong external trade and solid domestic demand, a government spokesman said.
Total exports of goods surged 30.4% in real terms compared to the third quarter of 2025, building on a 28.9% expansion in the prior quarter.
Imports of goods grew 29.9% year-on-year, following a 29.3% increase in the second quarter.
Exports of services rose 4.3% in real terms, while imports of services climbed 5.6%.
