Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner's son taken into custody, charged with his parents' murder
The son of famed Hollywood director Rob Reiner was taken into custody and charged with murder after his parents were found dead at their home in Los Angeles, California, police said Monday.
Authorities determined that the Reiners were victims of homicide, and an initial investigation revealed Nick Reiner, 32, was responsible for it, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said in a statement.
Nick was arrested nearly five hours after the police responded to the incident on Sunday at about 3.40 pm (2340GMT).
The department said the suspect is in custody with no bail, though LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell earlier said his bail was set at $4 million.
Police responded Sunday to the residence of Rob and Michele Reiner, located in West Los Angeles, McDonnell said.
Officers found two deceased adults, a male and a female, at the location. Authorities later identified them as Rob and Michele Reiner, the chief said.
After his breakout acting role on the TV sitcom All in the Family, Rob Reiner gained acclaim as a director in such films as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, and A Few Good Men, which got an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
One of his best-remembered films is the 1984 “mockumentary” This Is Spinal Tap, about an aging heavy metal band’s descent into ridicule and irrelevance. A sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, was released this September.
