Gas leak explosion in Texas injures 21
An explosion, likely caused by a gas leak, injured at least 21 people at the Sandman Hotel in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, city fire officials reported.
No fatalities occurred, but authorities are investigating the explosion's cause.
The scene, strewn with rubble between two buildings, saw first responders in action. Craig Trojacek, Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman, said crews rescued several people from the hotel's basement.
Of the injured, one person is in critical condition, and four others have serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to Trojacek. The rest suffered minor injuries.
Trojacek added that the hotel had 26 guest rooms occupied when the explosion occurred. Construction was happening in the building, but its role, if any, in the explosion remains undetermined.
