Floods kill 2 in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province
Massive floods struck Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, killing at least two children and destroying hundreds of houses on Sunday, local media reported.
According to the Nangarhar Provincial Disaster Management Department, aside from the two casualties, floods decimated 280 homes and obliterated thousands of acres of farmland, Hurriyat Radio reported.
Goshta, Lalpur, Nazian, Momandara, and Shewi districts were badly affected by the floods.
In the Goshta district alone, 250 residences were ruined, apart from nearly 1,500 acres of agricultural land being destroyed.
Authorities fear a rise in casualties and infrastructural damage as search and rescue operations are underway.
