Fidel Castro's sister Juanita Castro dies at 90
Juanita Castro, the sister of Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban revolution and former President of Cuba, has passed away in Miami at the age of 90.
According to a report on the Univision website, Castro, who had been receiving treatment in a Miami hospital for some time, died at the age of 90.
A statement from family members announced that Juanita Castro died of natural causes and that the funeral service would be held privately among the family.
Maria Antonieta Collins, the author who penned Juanita Castro's memoirs, said in her statement, 'Today Juanita Castro has gone ahead of us on the path of life and death. She was an extraordinary woman and a warrior who tirelessly worked for the cause she loved, Cuba.'
Juanita Castro, who had disagreements with her brothers Fidel and Raul over the Cuban revolution, left her country in 1964 and settled in Miami, USA. Working with the CIA under the pseudonym 'Donna,' Castro openly condemned the administration of Cuban revolution leaders Fidel and Raul Castro.
Juanita Castro had previously stated, 'I undoubtedly suffered more than other exiles because they never let me breathe on either side of the Florida Straits, and very few understand the paradox of my life. For those in Cuba, I am a fugitive because I left and condemned the current regime. For many in Miami, I am an undesirable person because I am the sister of Fidel and Raul.'
