Bird flu detected in Antarctica for the first time
For the first time, bird flu (H5N1) has been detected in Antarctica, with the discovery of two dead skuas. This event marks the virus's unprecedented spread to the continent, overcoming its natural barriers and isolation.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) announced that Argentine scientists found the infected birds near the Primavera Base in Antarctica, highlighting these as the continent's first known cases. The presence of the virus poses a potential risk to penguins.
The statement emphasized, "This discovery confirms that the virus has reached Antarctica for the first time, despite the natural boundaries and distances that separate the continent from others."
Experts are considering the possibility that migratory birds have carried the virus to Antarctica.
