Bahrain says it intercepted 78 missiles, 143 drones in Tehran's retaliatory attacks in Israel-US offensive on Iran
Bahrain’s air defense systems have intercepted 78 missiles and 143 drones launched in Tehran's retaliatory attacks amid the ongoing Israeli-US offensive on Iran, the Bahrain Defense Force said Friday.
The General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force said the interceptions occurred during “successive waves of Iranian terrorist attacks” targeting Bahrain, adding that the projectiles had been destroyed since the start of the aggression, according to an official statement.
The command said it takes pride in “the high combat readiness and vigilance” of its personnel, noting that their operational efficiency continues to protect the kingdom’s airspace.
It said the performance of its forces demonstrates the capability to safeguard Bahrain and maintain the security of its skies, according to the statement.
The Bahrain Defense Force urged residents to remain in their homes and leave only in cases of extreme necessity while exercising maximum caution for their safety.
The command said the use of ballistic missiles and drones to target civilian sites and private property constitutes a “clear violation of international humanitarian law and the UN Charter,” adding that such attacks pose a direct threat to regional peace and security.
The ongoing Israeli-US offensive on Iran has killed around 1,000 people since Saturday, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top military officials, while Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Gulf countries which are home to US assets.
