Bahrain condemns shooting at White House correspondents’ dinner
Bahrain has condemned a shooting at the White House correspondents’ dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday evening, where President Donald Trump was also present, state news agency BNA reported.
The Foreign Ministry, in a statement, reiterated its rejection of violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The ministry affirmed the solidarity with the US and the American people, and commended the vigilance and efficiency of the security guards, whose swift action thwarted the attempt and led to the apprehension of the assailant.
It also expressed the kingdom’s wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured security officer.
The incident took place at the Washington Hilton Hotel, where the annual dinner was being held, prompting the evacuation of Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other senior officials.
A 31-year-old suspect identified as Cole Thomas Allen is in custody following the attack, with authorities continuing to investigate his background and possible motives, according to media reports.
Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the suspect “will be arraigned on Monday in federal district court.”
In a news conference after the incident, Trump described the suspect as a “very sick person” and a “thug” who had attacked the US Constitution.
A Secret Service officer was shot in the attack, but he was saved by his bulletproof vest and was “doing great,” Trump said.
