4, including Lebanese soldier, injured in southern Lebanon blast

In a statement, the Lebanese army said that the soldier sustained serious injuries in the Nabatieh al-Fawqa area while the army was escorting residents to inspect their properties.

Three civilians were also injured in the incident, the statement added.

The army said that an investigation and an engineering inspection showed that the incident was caused by the explosion of a “suspicious object.”

It said follow-up efforts were continuing to determine the circumstances of the incident, without providing further details about the nature or origin of the object.

Earlier Wednesday, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted a military position in Nabatieh al-Fawqa. The Israeli army did not immediately comment on the report.

Southern Lebanon witnessed two explosions and Israeli artillery shelling early Wednesday, alongside intensive military aircraft flights over areas in the Nabatieh and South governorates, according to the agency.

The Israeli attacks on Lebanon came despite the two sides signing a US-brokered framework agreement on June 26.

The agreement provides for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas from which they withdraw.

Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,386 people, injured 12,407 and displaced more than 1 million others since March 2, according to Lebanese authorities.
