1 dead, 6 Injured in shooting on university campus in US' North Carolina state
A shooting on the Elizabeth City State University campus in the southeastern US state of North Carolina early Sunday left one person dead and six others injured, prompting a campus lockdown, the university said in a statement.

The shooting took place at the heart of Elizabeth City State University’s campus after Yard Fest, the concluding event of the historically Black university’s weeklong Viking Fest celebration, the statement noted.
A 24-year-old man, not affiliated with the university, died at the scene, with his identity being withheld until his family is notified, it added.
Four people, including three students, suffered gunshot wounds, and two others were hurt amid the chaos, according to the statement.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, and all of the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
“The university is deeply saddened by this senseless act,” the university also said.
"The ECSU Police, along with the Elizabeth City Police Department, Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, responded swiftly and are actively investigating the situation," it added.
The lockdown was eventually lifted, and campus patrols were stepped up as a safety measure. Access to the center of campus stayed limited into Sunday evening.
