One crew member's body found, 10 still missing in Turkish ship sinking
The body of a second crew member from a Turkish-flagged ship that sank in the Black Sea off the northern province of Zonguldak has been recovered, authorities announced on Thursday.
This discovery comes four days after the cargo ship sank on November 19th due to adverse weather conditions. Currently, the search for the remaining 10 missing crew members is ongoing and uninterrupted, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The recovered body was found on Thursday morning as part of the ongoing search effort. AFAD, in a statement posted on the social media platform X, extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident. They emphasized that professional teams are tirelessly working to locate and rescue the 10 individuals who are still missing.
The cargo ship in question, the Kafkametler, had a crew of 12 Turkish members, and contact with the vessel was lost while it was navigating the southern Black Sea. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that the ship sank off the coast of Zonguldak due to adverse weather and sea conditions. Notably, one body had been recovered on the day after the incident occurred.
