Magnitude 5.1 earthquake hits sea of Marmara
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the Sea of Marmara, shaking several regions in Turkey including Istanbul.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced the quake, which was felt strongly in various provinces. The tremor occurred at 10:42 AM, with its epicenter in the sea and a depth measured at 8.98 km.
Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya was among the first to respond to the earthquake. He confirmed that teams from AFAD and other relevant institutions were quickly mobilized for field assessments in the affected areas. The rapid response aimed to evaluate any potential damage and ensure public safety.

In a separate report, the Kandilli Observatory recorded the earthquake's magnitude as slightly lower, at 4.9. The discrepancy in magnitudes is not uncommon in seismic measurements. Despite this, the quake was notably felt in Istanbul, Bursa, and Tekirdağ, causing alarm among residents. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates and safety instructions to the public.
