Despite facing backlash from subscribers, Netflix's implementation of stricter rules proved advantageous, reportedly attracting 13 million new users by the end of 2023.
In August 2023, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced plans to address account sharing and drive monetization strategies by 2024. Reports indicated that Canadian customers were notified of impending changes starting November 1, 2023, but details for users in the UK and the US remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, Hulu, owned by Disney, will implement similar limitations on account sharing outside of households starting March 14, according to CNN.
The agreement terms stipulate against impersonation or misrepresentation of affiliation with any person or entity, including the unauthorized use of another person's credentials or providing false information for a parent or guardian.
