Amazon introduces 'Q' a new AI chatbot to rival ChatGPT
Amazon has unveiled 'Q' a business chatbot powered by generative artificial intelligence, marking its foray into the burgeoning AI chatbot landscape.

The announcement was made at an annual AWS cloud computing service conference in Las Vegas. Q represents Amazon's answer to the rising popularity of AI chatbots like ChatGPT, developed by the San Francisco startup OpenAI. ChatGPT's emergence sparked immense interest in generative AI tools capable of producing human-like text, from emails to essays.
Q's capabilities extend to synthesizing content, streamlining communication, and assisting with tasks such as generating blog posts. Businesses can integrate Q with their own data and systems, offering a customized experience. Despite being a dominant force in cloud computing, surpassing rivals Microsoft and Google, Amazon has not been viewed as a leader in AI research. A Stanford University index recently ranked Amazon's transparency in foundational AI models at the bottom, highlighting concerns about the reliability of its AI technology.
Amazon continues to advance in the AI field, having announced a significant investment of up to $4 billion in the AI startup Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI staff. In addition to Q, Amazon has updated its popular assistant, Alexa, to facilitate more human-like interactions and produce AI-generated summaries of product reviews, further integrating AI into consumer experiences.
