NBA suspends player for 25 games for drug policy violation
The NBA has suspended Tristan Thompson, center-forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers, for 25 games for violating the league's drug policy, the league announced Tuesday.
Thompson, 32, received the suspension without pay after testing positive for ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033, according to the NBA's statement. Ibutamoren stimulates growth hormone, while SARM LGD-4033 aids muscle building. The NBA prohibits both substances.
The suspension for the Canadian-born US national begins Wednesday, sidelining him for the Cavaliers' game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
"The Cleveland Cavaliers fully support the NBA/NBAPA Anti-Drug Program. We are disappointed with the recent news regarding Tristan Thompson. His absence will impact our team," the Eastern Conference team said. "We stand with Tristan and offer our support throughout his suspension."
Thompson has been an NBA player since 2011 and was pivotal in the Cavaliers' 2016 league championship win. Before rejoining the Cavaliers in 2023, he played for the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers.
