Fenerbahce forfeits Turkish Super Cup in protest
In a dramatic turn of events, Fenerbahce's players exited the pitch merely one minute into Sunday's Turkish Super Cup clash against Galatasaray. This unexpected move led to the abandonment of the game, with Fenerbahce forfeiting the trophy.

Opting to play their Under-19 squad, Fenerbahce's decision to withdraw came swiftly after Galatasaray's Argentine forward, Mauro Icardi, netted a goal in the match held in Sanliurfa, nearly 1,000 kilometers from Istanbul.
The club had previously sought a postponement of this fixture, citing the proximity to their Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg against Olympiakos Piraeus on Thursday. However, their request was denied.
This is not the first instance of Fenerbahce expressing discontent with the league's management. In March, the club contemplated exiting the Turkish Super Lig altogether following an incident where Trabzonspor supporters attacked its players during a game.
Fenerbahce, claiming the title of the world's largest sports club with a fan base of 30 million, representing national values from various countries, reaffirmed its stature. "Just as we stood tall yesterday, we will continue to do so today and in the future," the club announced on X (formerly Twitter) this Sunday.
Originally, the Turkish Super Cup was slated for December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but faced postponement. Reports indicate that the deferment stemmed from Saudi authorities' refusal to permit players from sporting T-shirts adorned with the image of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, during the pre-game warm-up.
