Ankaragücü's River Plate project: Talks underway!
MKE Ankaragücü, a 114 year-old team in Turkiye's TFF 1. Lig, has announced collaborative discussions with the Argentine club River Plate.
Ankaragücü's spokesperson, Mehmet Şanal, attended the meetings with River Plate, one of Argentina's top clubs. The discussions took place at River Plate's facilities and included River Plate's Vice President Ignacio Villaruel and General Secretary Felipe Liorente.
The meetings focused on club structuring, organization, and training, with particular emphasis on incorporating young players into the talent pool starting next year.
Mehmet Şanal, who was warmly received, commented on the discussions:
"Our club is working towards short, medium, and long-term goals, aiming to make Ankaragücü self-sufficient in infrastructure and financial matters. We are exploring what can be done by meeting with exemplary clubs. We also seek to establish partnerships. River Plate, which has produced 26 World Cup players and trained over 500 players in its academy, serves as an exemplary model. In our discussions, we also talked about the possibility of young players from the River Plate academy playing for Ankaragücü in the future."
Ignacio Villaruel expressed satisfaction with the visit, highlighting the club's good relations with Turkish clubs and providing information about River Plate's activities. He stated that they would be happy to support Ankaragücü in structuring and training matters.
