US Supreme Court dismisses civil case against Halkbank
Halkbank, a state-owned Turkish lender, announced on Tuesday that the first civil lawsuit in the US against the bank has been dismissed.

The US District Court for the Southern District of New York initially dismissed the case, followed by the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, citing "forum non conveniens" as the reason. The US Supreme Court reviewed the appeal on Friday and declined to grant the plaintiff's appeal on Monday.
Halkbank stated, "The Owens case, filed against our bank on March 27, 2020, has been conclusively dismissed. We extend our congratulations to our bank, investors, customers, and employees on this decision."
The bank also noted that legal proceedings for a second civil case filed on July 26, 2023, the Hughes case, for satisfaction of judgments, as well as the criminal case from October 15, 2019, are still underway.
