International Cartoonists Converge for the 14th Turhan Selçuk Cartoon Competition

One of the key features of the competition is its openness to a variety of techniques and styles, allowing cartoonists to submit up to five pieces of their best work. Entries can include cartoons that have been previously published, provided they haven't won awards in other competitions. Submissions, which can be original or high-quality electronic versions, must adhere to a maximum size of 30x40cm.

The competition emphasizes the importance of professional presentation, requiring participants to include their full name, address, email, country, telephone number, and a brief CV enclosed in a sealed envelope. The deadline for submissions is set for April 30, 2024, ensuring ample time for cartoonists to perfect and send their entries to the Milas Belediyesi Kültür ve Sosyal İşler Müdürlüğü in Turkey.

The eagerly awaited results of the competition will be announced on May 18, 2024. This year's jury comprises a diverse and accomplished panel, including the Mayor of Milas Muhammet Tokat, and renowned cartoonists like Kamil Masaracı, İzel Rozental, Fahriye Çıtaklı, among others. The panel's collective expertise promises a fair and inspiring adjudication of the entries.

Prizes for the top three winners include ₺20.000 for the first place, ₺15.000 for the runner-up, and ₺10.000 for the third place, along with various special prizes sponsored by different organizations. Notably, the jury meeting to decide the winners will convene on May 11, 2024.

The organizers have announced that all submitted cartoons may be used for cultural purposes and may be published, with all pieces becoming part of the Milas Belediyesi Kültür ve Sosyal İşler Müdürlüğü’s collection. The selected cartoons will be showcased in an exhibition and featured in a special album, with the exhibition opening and award ceremony slated for September 2024 at the Milas Municipality Conference Hall.

In a generous move to support the artists, Milas Municipality will cover travel, accommodation, and meal expenses for the top three winners, while participants who win a ‘Special Award’ will have their accommodation and meal costs covered.

This year's competition celebrates the art of cartooning and serves as a platform for cultural exchange and artistic collaboration, reinforcing Milas's position as a burgeoning hub for the arts.

CONDITIONS:

1. The competition is open to any cartoonist.

2. It is acceptable to enter with cartoons that have been published previously. However, they should not have won any prize/award in any other competition.

3. Any technique is allowed. The cartoonist can submit a maximum of 5 cartoons. Originals or electronic versions suitable for printing in 300 dpi and jpg format sent by e-mail would also be acceptable. No responsibility will be assumed for documents sent in different formats and documents that can not be opened.

4. All cartoons must be 30x40cm maximum.

5. The participants must write their names (first and surname) in capital letters, address, e-mail, country and telephone number; a brief CV should be submitted in a sealed envelope.

6. Cartoons must be sent to the address below by April 30, 2024, at the latest.

7. The results of the competition will be announced on 18th May 2024.

8. The cartoons sent to the competition will not be returned. All cartoons, whether they have won a prize or not, may be used for cultural purposes and may be published. Participation assumes acceptance of these conditions. All cartoons will be kept in the ‘Milas Belediyesi Kültür ve Sosyal İşler Müdürlüğü’.

9. The cartoons selected by the jury will be displayed in the exhibition and will also be printed in the album.

10. The reward ceremony will be held in September 2024. The opening of the exhibition will be held on the same date, in ‘Milas Municipality Conference Hall’ for cartoons which have won an award or have been selected for display. The exhibition will be open until 01st October 2024.

11. Accommodation and meal expenses for participants who have won a ‘Special Award’ will be met. The participants will bear travel expenses. Travel, accommodation and meal expenses for competitors who come first, second and third will be met by Milas Municipality.
