UAE air defenses intercept missiles, drones: Defense Ministry
The United Arab Emirates said its air defense systems are actively engaging missile and drone threats, as authorities confirmed a drone strike targeting a facility in the emirate of Sharjah.
cumhuriyet.com.trThe UAE Defense Ministry said in a statement through US social media company X that air defenses were responding to incoming “missiles and UAV threats,” adding that sounds heard across the country were due to the ongoing interception operations.
Separately, the Sharjah Government Media Bureau said authorities were dealing with an incident on Monday involving a drone that targeted the administrative building of Thuraya Telecommunications Company in the central region of the emirate.
The bureau said the drone originated from Iran and confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Authorities urged the public not to circulate rumors and to rely only on official sources for information.
The region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched an air offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
