Iraq reopens Baghdad airport after temporary closure over technical fault
Baghdad International Airport reopened Wednesday after a temporary closure caused by what authorities described as a technical fault, Iraqi media reported.
cumhuriyet.com.trLocal outlet Shafaq News, citing a security source, said that the runway was reopened and flights resumed after overnight repairs.
Iraqi authorities have yet to confirm the reopening.
Earlier, Iraq’s Transport Ministry announced a temporary shutdown of the airport due to an “emergency technical malfunction,” describing the move as a precautionary step taken in line with aviation safety standards.
Ministry spokesperson Maytham al-Safi told the state news agency INA that specialized technical teams had immediately begun diagnostic and repair work.
The spokesperson also rejected claims circulating on social media suggesting that the closure was related to local or international security concerns.
