Zelensky: Ukrainian army takes control of Russia's Sudzha town

President Zelensky stated that after crossing the border on August 6 and launching attacks in Russia's Kursk region, the Ukrainian army successfully gained control of Sudzha.

"We've made new progress," Zelensky said. "General Staff Chief Syrskyi reported that the town of Sudzha has been liberated from Russian forces. A Ukrainian military command office is currently being established there. Several other settlements have also been captured, bringing the total to over 80."

War Extends Into Russian Territory

The Ukrainian Armed Forces initiated an attack on Russia's Kursk region on August 7. Initially conducted with 300 military personnel, the attack force later grew to 1,000. Russian President Vladimir Putin convened with Defense Ministry officials on August 8 to discuss the latest developments.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned Ukraine's cross-border attacks as "acts of terrorism" and warned of retaliation. On August 13, President Zelensky announced that Ukrainian forces continued to advance in the Kursk region, asserting control over 74 settlements.
