Kazakhstan wins its first olympic gold medal
On the first day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Kazakh judoka Yeldos Smetov won the gold medal in the men's 60 kg judo competition.

In the final match at Champ de Mars Arena, Yeldos Smetov faced French judoka Luka Mkheidze. With a dominant performance in the closing stages, Smetov emerged victorious, earning Kazakhstan its first-ever gold medal in judo.
In this category, Spanish judoka Francisco Garrigos and Japanese judoka Ryuju Nagayama each took home a bronze medal. Salih Yıldız of Turkey, who competed for bronze, finished in fifth place.
